We’re seeking a Special Education Specialist who is organized, collaborative,  and empathetic to teach grades 9-12 for the 2018-2019 year. The position is at a charter school belonging to a private/public partnership in South Los Angeles.

THE RIGHT TEACHER IS….
The right educator has a strong work ethic and aspires to be a leader within the school organization, proactively providing recommendations and accommodations for at-risk students to general education teachers.

In addition to using a variety of instructional strategies and resources to respond to students’ diverse needs and interests (including prescribed educational software and intervention curriculum), the educator facilitates learning experiences that promote autonomy, interaction and choices and engage students in problem solving, critical thinking and/or other activities that make subject matter meaningful.

As an educator in this urban setting, the teacher quickly builds rapport in large classroom settings while exhibiting superb IEP management and monitoring through “line of sight” supervision.

They are skilled at daily grades/points, progress notes, progress reports, report cards, IEP goals and objectives, incident reports, and behavior data.

The right educator excels at administering co-taught lessons in a fully inclusive learning environment and collaborates in weekly planning sessions with general education co-teacher, using Google Docs.

The educator co teaches at least one class period 4 to 5 times a week and is comfortable leading before/after school tutoring sessions 2-4 days a week.

The high school serves 480 students, with the populations being 94% Hispanic and 97% receiving free and reduced lunch.

Compensation is DOE. Salary ranges from $49,479-89,117.

REQUIRED:
  • Clear California Teaching Credential in Mild/Moderate Disabilities.
  • at least 3 years of teaching experience in an urban setting
  • Experience working with individuals with emotional disorders and/or challenging behaviors is preferred.

SKILLS NEEDED
  • Facility with Spanish; Bilingual in Spanish or Korean highly encouraged to apply
