Job Description

One of our premier independent Jewish day schools in the South Bay is looking for a Jewish Studies/Hebrew Teacher, starting fall 2019. Their student-centered approach to education provides opportunities for students to focus on areas of interest. Honesty, compassion, and emphasis on the positive, are hallmarks of the school's approach to life and learning.
Teachers are constantly collaborating with each other, integrating subject matter, and adapting lessons to the kids’ interests which yields a rich, diverse curriculum, and inspires students to achieve their full potential.

As a lower school teacher, you will explore literature, mathematical problem solving, creative writing and science projects with your students in ways that help them grapple with universal themes.

We exceed typical offerings by giving students a daily experience in something “special”. This includes Physical Education twice a week, Art once a week, Music once a week, Gardening once a week, and STEAM/Design Challenges once a week. Experts in their field teach all of these specials, allowing additional prep time for you.
You are: creative, flexible, collaborative, responsive to the needs of kids, a good listener, dynamic, caring, receptive, open, and bring your own amazing ideas to the team and the kids.

Specific requirements and expectations:
  • At least three years of classroom experience, with a demonstrated focus on Jewish Studies/Hebrew education.
  • Thorough knowledge of cognitive and social-emotional development; uses a variety of teaching techniques; incorporates technology into the classroom; establishes positive relationships with students; communicates with parents; collaborates with colleagues; demonstrates initiative; is flexible and adheres to professional standards and models integrity and respect;
  • Prioritizes opportunities for integration with general studies curriculum, displays creativity in thinking and teaching and has solid experience teaching sacred texts, Jewish values, Jewish history, t'fillah and Israel.
