Job Description

Our partner school is seeking committed, collaborative, and passionate faculty members to join their growing middle school program for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

Planning and Preparing: 

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instruction, providing materials which are aligned to Common Core State Standards and school's scope and sequence.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain curricula that create meaningful learning experiences by privileging deep understanding, skillful performance and robust knowledge.
  • Develop and design curricula with an emphasis on visible thinking tools and depth and complexity icons.
  • Design and develop inquiry learning units with an emphasis on multi-disciplinary thinking.
  • Design worksheets, assignments and projects to advance students toward essential skill requirements.
  • Provide effective classroom management and explicitly teach social skills.
  • Support students in meeting rigorous learning goals and engage and encourage learners to develop a deep understanding of content areas.
  • Prepare enrichment material for high potential students including organizing Olympiads and Mathematical and Science Competitions.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of our technologies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective classroom strategies, providing a safe, secure and respectful learning environment. 
Assessment and Reporting:
  • Monitor student progress and adapt course content delivery methods in order to meet the needs of each student.
  • Use formative and summative assessments and MAP results to plan for and monitor individual student achievement and learning goals and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Confer with students and students’ advisory regarding academic progress.
  • Maintain attendance records, and complete regular progress reports. 
Student Relationships:
  • Communicate student behavior expectations in a positive manner and convey rules and expectations with consistency, while recognizing the unique qualities and characteristics of the individual.
  • Create a positive climate in your classroom by focusing not only on improving your relationships with your students, but also on enhancing the relationships among your students.
  • Interact with students in a responsive and respectful manner.
  • Help students reflect on their thinking and learning skills and their goal-setting. 
Advisory Duties:
  • Provide an advisory role for an on-going peer support group of approximately 20 students.
  • Facilitate meaningful activities for weekly advisory meetings.
  • Maintain regular contact with parents or guardians of assigned students, while providing support, mentorship and academic counseling.
  • Participate in development and review of IEPs for special education students.
  • Maintain student records. 
General Duties:
  • Develop as a professional educator.
  • Attend staff development meetings and weekly staff meetings as required.
  • Attend overnight camps, Open Houses, Back to School Evenings and other communal events as required
  • Develop and plan an elective for approximately 20 students once a week.
  • Maintain an inviting classroom with well-maintained bulletin-boards and furniture. 
Requirements:
  • Four-year degree from a college or university.
  • Valid teacher credential, Masters Degree and/or previous
  • Middle School teaching experience preferred.
