Our partner charter school is seeking courageous educators who are passionate about creating transformative change through teaching in Los Angeles communities where they are most needed. The Education Specialist plays an integral role in the success of scholars with disabilities at their school site. By providing individualized, rigorous, and high-quality supports and services, the Education Specialist helps to ensure that all of our scholars achieve at high levels.
  • Manage caseload of scholars with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) by ensuring that all IEPs are thoroughly compliant and serve as a true roadmap for a scholar’s achievement trajectory; this includes collaborating with others to write high-quality IEPs, holding robust IEP meetings with all team members as active contributors, maintaining up-to-date documentation on caseload, and partnering with related service providers to ensure high-quality services for scholars on the caseload.
  • Regularly gather scholar data to monitor academic growth and scholar progress toward IEP goals and to drive instruction and interventions.
  • Utilize a wide variety of teaching methods to create differentiated opportunities for deep understanding for all scholars, regardless of incoming achievement level or diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to plan rigorous lessons for scholars with disabilities.  
  • Ensure that all accommodations and modifications for scholars with disabilities are implemented with fidelity across general education classes.
  • Maintain up-to-date information on caseload of scholars with IEPs in Welligent, including updating scholar and IEP information, regularly tracking services, and running and analyzing compliance reports.
  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and supportive learning environment that excites and invests scholars in learning.
  • Work collaboratively with families and Alliance colleagues to support the achievement of all scholars and the mission and vision of the school.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to obtain a valid California Teaching Credential in the assigned subject area(s) and a valid English Learner authorization (e.g. CLAD, BCLAD)
  • California Single or Multiple Subject Credential (Clear or Preliminary)
  • California University Internship Credential Eligible
  • California Credential in Progress
  • Non-California Credential Transferring to California (i.e., from other U.S. states)
Skills, Beliefs, and Mindset:
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills, as well as content area expertise
  • Experience with Welligent electronic health record software for IEP and 504 management (preferred)
  • Deep knowledge of effective evaluation and assessment techniques to drive scholar learning
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with both children and adults
